An independent business, built the independent way
Black Wax Coffee & Records trades as Black Wax Coffee Ltd, incorporated in 2022 and registered at Companies House (company no. 13936640). It’s a small, Hythe-owned business — not a chain, not a franchise.
It started with two Waterside locals, a serious coffee habit and a record collection that had long outgrown the spare room. The idea was simple: a place where you could get a properly made coffee and dig through crates of second-hand vinyl in the same afternoon — without either one feeling like an afterthought.
The room does a lot of the talking. Exposed brick, stripped-back fittings and warm, low light were kept and built on rather than covered up — the kind of space that’s as easy to settle into with a laptop as it is to lose an hour flicking through sleeves.
Since opening, the shop has become a genuine destination on Hythe High Street — consistently praised by visitors for its atmosphere, and open seven days a week to prove it.
